Definitions
Implied Consent - A court procedure to contest driver's license revocation.
Petty Misdemeanor - A non-criminal offense that would not involve any jail time.
Misdemeanor- A crime that has a sentence of not more than 90 days in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000.00.
Gross Misdemeanor - A crime that has a sentence of not more than one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $3,000.00.
Felony - A crime that could have a sentence of imprisonment for more than one year imposed.
DWI - Driving While Intoxicated
DUI - Driving while Under the Influence
BWI - Boating While Intoxicated
SWI - Snowmobiling While Intoxicated
B-Card - A permanent notification on a driver's license of a repeat drug/alcohol offender.
Minor Consumption - a person under the age of 21 that is drinking alcohol.
Homeowner Liability - An adult homeowner that allows alcohol to be consumed by minors.
Controlled substance - A drug or chemical that is controlled by the government.
Bail - a term used for the money or property that an accused person uses to secure their release from custody before trial. If the person fails to appear in court the bail can be forfeited and seized by the court.
Bond - a contract that enables people to pay a small amount of the bail cost, usually around 10%, to a bail bond company. The bond promises that their client will return for all future court appearances.
Probation - A court-ordered sanction imposed upon a person for a period of supervision.
